The Ride for Recovery is a family-fun fitness event that will help to provide critical support to Dawn Farm by raising funds for our continuum of services to assist addicts and alcoholics in achieving long term recovery. Four rides available from the beginner to expert. 100 Metric Century “Serenity” ride starts at 8am; 40 mile “Honesty” ride starts at 8 am; 25 mile “Openness” ride starts at 9 am; 10k “Willingness” ride starts at 10 am.

THE INTERSECTION OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Presented by Barbara Niess May, MPA, MSW; Executive Director, SafeHouse Center; and David J.H. Garvin, LMSW; Director, Alternatives to Domestic Aggression, Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County. Domestic violence offender and survivor alcohol and other drug use/abuse will be central to this discussion. The audience will be provided with a primmer regarding batterer tactics, strategies, and core beliefs which hold the batterer accountable for his abusive behaviors while maintaining and promoting survivor safety. The program will help participants to recognize the critical importance of understanding domestic violence and alcohol/other drug use/abuse in order to safely and effectively intervene and/or interrupt the batterer's abusive behaviors and support the survivor.

TEENS USING DRUGS - PART I - WHAT TO KNOW

Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do" is an ongoing, two-part workshop series. Part 1 is presented on the first Tuesday of May through June and provides information on how to recognize and understand adolescent substance abuse.. The series is presented by Dawn Farm therapist and Growth Works therapists, and is co-sponsored by Dawn Farm, the Livingston and Washtenaw Regional Coordinated School Health Program Advisory Team, and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Greenbrook Recovery Center. All workshops are free and open to all. The presentations are targeted primarily to parents and caretakers of teens, but are also inclusive of teens, family members, people who work with teens, students, and anyone interested in attending for any reason. Registration Information: All are welcome to attend! Registration is not required. A certificate to document attendance can be provided on request.

It's been said that the doctor's office is a dangerous place for people in recovery from addiction. It's also been said that recovering people are terrible patients. This program will discuss whether these statements are fair and why doctors and other healthcare providers are essential allies for long term recovery. We will describe in detail how recovering people can take responsibility for their physical health and how to recruit health care providers as allies.

In a difficult marketplace where many addiction treatment programs closed due to lack of resources, Dawn Farm expanded from a single residential site in 1973 to a continuum of services provided at multiple sites today. This program will describe the evolution of the treatment field over the past forty years, discuss what can be learned from Dawn Farm's successes and failures, illustrate how mission-driven choices have allowed Dawn Farm to survive and thrive, and explain the power of rejecting fear-based program management.
